Man Shot Dead In Bed-Stuy Housing Complex, Police Say

William Ortiz, 30, was shot inside the Lafayette Houses near Franklin Avenue Thursday afternoon, police said.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN -- A Brooklyn man was shot dead inside the housing complex where he lived, police said.

William Ortiz, 30, was fatally shot inside a Lafayette Houses building near Franklin Avenue and Lafayette Street at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday, said police.

NYPD officers found Ortiz unconscious with a bullet wound in his torso in the 13th floor hallway, police said.

Emergency responders rushed Ortiz to Kings County Hospital where he later died, said police.

No arrests had been made as of Friday morning and the investigation remains ongoing.

Ortiz lived in a neighboring building near DeKalb Avenue, police said.
