Bed-Stuy Speakeasy Becomes Zig Zag Tiki Bar
Speakeasies are out. Tiki is in ... apparently.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — Goodbye speakeasy, hello tiki.
Bed-Stuy got a new watering hole this month when Zig Zag Tiki Bar launched in the former premises of the speakeasy Pelican on Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Hancock Street.
Zig Zag opened its big green doors to the public on May 4, just months after Pelican, a bar from former Hot Bird owner Frank Moe, shut down for good in March.

It looks like this a rebranding. Although Patch was unable to reach owners to confirm, the new website features photos from Pelican and includes the following review from a patron dubbed Brian B:
"Recently reopened as 'Zig Zag' with a tiki theme, remodeled interior (with a bigger bar and more seating!) But similar draft list and many of the same awesome bartenders."

And State Liquor Authority records show Moe still possesses an active liquor license at 382 Marcus Garvey Boulevard.
The new menu features cocktails that range in price from $10 to $12 and will soon be serving sandwiches that include banh mi, meatball parms and BLTs, according to the bar website.
Tiki Bars are apparently becoming a thing in Kings County. Grub Street released its roundup Tuesday of the city's best tropical themed bars which includes several Brooklyn bars, including Super Power in Crown Heights and Donna in Williamsburg.
