Todos Alimentos Supermercado...

Metropolitan Market is it me or are they constantly overcharging?

I am a native New Yorker who grew up knowing the Stuy strictly as Bed Stuy Do or Die. I remember my sisters and I taking the D, not the B, or the Q to Parkside Avenue changing for the shuttle and catching the A at Fulton and Franklin.  I'm not gonna lie back then we were scared.

Well, times have certainly changed.  After living out of New York City for a number of years I'm back and I now own property in Bed Stuy.  The Stuy has managed to bring in some healthy changes while still keeping the original culture and feel - the summer parties are bumping.

One of the welcomed additions is the Metropolitan Market.  When it first opened I was chomping at the bit to get inside and check out this new grocery store that was a stone's throw away.  Imagine my surprise when I realized that Metropolitan Market was really a Spanish Whole Foods - have you seen those prices? Have they forgotten what neighborhood they're in?  In all fairness it's business and you can charge what you want as long as the demand is there.  However, what I do have a problem with and I'm not the only one is the constant overcharging.  The price listed on the product sign is not the price you get charged at the register about 45% of the time and word to the wise check the expiration date on certain perishable items.  It is exhausting to constantly verify prices and get a refund when you're original intention was to just run in and grab a few items.  I'm not going to say it's a racket but it'd be a pretty good one.

With that said I truly hope that Todos Alimentos Supermercado... I mean Metropolitan Market gets its act together because continued diversity in the neighborhood is what makes the Stuy great being over charged, not so much.
