Cops Arrest Playground Gunman Who Shot Bed-Stuy Dad In The Head

Herman Dunston has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting Johnny Mathis in Eleanor Roosevelt Park earlier this month, police said.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — Police arrested the man accused of shooting a Bed-Stuy father in the head earlier this month.

Herman Dunston, 43 was arrested and charged with shooting 29-year-old Johnny Mathis in Eleanor Roosevelt Playground near Lewis and DeKalb avenues on May 4 at about 1:40 a.m., police said.

Dunston lives across the street from the playground where Mathis was fatally shot, said police.

The Bed-Stuy man is scheduled to be arraigned on charges of murder and criminal possession of a loaded weapon in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Tuesday, court records show.

Mathis was the father of a 5-year-old son, Brooklyn News 12 reported.
