Couple Beats Livery Driver With Metal Rod In Bed-Stuy Deli: Cops

A brutal attempted robbery in a Bed-Stuy deli left a livery driver with a black eye and cuts on his face, police said.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN -- A livery cab driver fled an angry couple who demanded a ride, chased him into a deli and beat him with a metal rod and glass bottle, police said.

The 59-year-old driver stopped near Fulton Street and Throop Avenue at about 11:10 p.m. on Feb. 10 when a man opened the passenger door, said police.

The scared driver dashed into a nearby deli to call 911, but the man and a woman followed him inside, picked a fight and began throwing punches, glass bottles and a metal rod, police said.

The pair fled after a failed attempt to steal the driver's wallet, police said.

Emergency responders took the injured man to Woodhull Hospital where he was treated for a black eye and cuts on his head and hand, according to police.
