DOC Employee Arrested After Drunken Crash, Police Say
A city jail employee appeared drunk and refused a breath test after an early morning crash in Bed-Stuy, authorities said.
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — One of New York's boldest found himself in handcuffs after a suspected drunken crash along a Bed-Stuy street.
Leonard Barrett, 34, a Department of Correction employee, appeared drunk early Saturday when police rolled up to a crash near Halsey Street and Malcolm X Boulevard, authorities said.
Barrett was off-duty and behind the wheel before the crash, according to police. Officers tried to give him a breath test but he refused to take it, authorities said.

Police arrested him on suspicion of driving while impaired and refusing the breath test, authorities said. He's scheduled for a March 23 court hearing on a drunken driving charge, according to court records.
