Ahmed Abdullah's supergroup: DIASPORA

Sistas' Place, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is a Weapon, continues its 17th season with Ahmed Abdullah's Diaspora featuring Alex Harding on baritone saxophone, pianist D.D.Jackson, bassist Radu, drummer Reggie Nicholson, vocalist Miles Griffith, vocalist/poet Monique Ngozi Nri and poet Louis Reyes Rivera, Saturday, May 12, 2012 @ 9 and 10:30pm.

Once in a while Ahmed Abdullah switches hats from that of music director of Sistas' Place to that of trumpeter/bandleader. This Saturday is such an occasion and the band will include some of the foundational members of the band. Alex Harding will be back, on
break from touring with the great musical "Fela." Along with Alex will be D.D. Jackson, Radu and Reggie Nicholson keeping a strong rhythmic groove. As well, vocalist Miles Griffith will add his powerful lungs to the mix that will also include the vocals and poetry of Monique Ngozi Nri and the poetry of Louis Reyes Rivera.
