As a child, it was not uncommon for him to be around such jazz giants as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lena Horne. He went on to study with both Barry Harris and Billy Taylor.Mr. Jacobs is also an educator and writes and performs music programs for children and adults. He has made recordings with Weldon Irvine, Najee and others.
