
"Her Word as Witness", riveting, intimate portraits of 35 women of some of our country's and the Black diaspora's most talented and prolific writers. The exhibit opened on December 1st to rave reviews in print and electronic media and will close March 31, 2012. Curated by photographer Laylah Amatullah Barrayn, the following accompanying public program promises to further enrich the exhibition:
Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts, "Harlem Is Nowhere", written in the powerful documentary tradition of Ralph Ellison and others, untangles the mythology and reality of Black life in Harlem at the intersection of gentrification and community empowerment in the village of Harlem.
