MoCADA presents "Saying No" Film Festival Premier

In anticipation of the opening of the upcoming exhibition, Saying No: Reconciling Spirituality and Resistance in Indigenous Australian Art, MoCADA presents the Saying No Film Festival from July 21 to August 11, 2011. The two-week film festival features documentaries, dramas and short films that showcase stories reflecting the historical and contemporary issues facing Indigenous Australian people. Please note new dates for the upcoming exhibition, Saying No,  on view mid-summer to fall, 2011.

Premier Event
Thursday, July 21 | 6:00 - 9:00pm
MoCADA, 80 Hanson Place, Brooklyn
Join us for the evening to celebrate contemporary Aboriginal film, art and culture. Featured activities include:
6:00 - 9:00pm : Screening of six short films by Aboriginal filmmakers, including Babakiueria (1986) by Don Featherstone, Nana (2007) by Warwick Thornton, Two Bob Mermaid (1996) by Darlene Johnson, Night Cries (1989) by Tracey Moffatt, Nice Coloured Girls (1990) by Tracey Moffatt, The Fitzroy Stars (2008) by John Harding and Daniel King.
6:00 - 7:00pm : Outdoor chalk drawing for children and families
7:30 & 8:30pm : Musical and dance performance by Cameron McCarthy, world renowned Aboriginal artist
6:00 - 9:00pm : Opening reception for Dandy Lion: Articulating a Re(de)fined Black Masculine Identity, curated by Shantrelle P. Lewis in MoCADA’s extended gallery.
Refreshments, popcorn, and live music will be provided. Wine will be served courtesy of Sugarleaf Vineyards.
