Heart Attack Patient Killed, 8 First Responders Injured In Crash
A early-morning collision between an FDNY ladder truck and an ambulance killed a man while EMTs and firefighters suffered injuries.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN – A 59-year-old heart attack patient was killed and multiple other people, including eight first responders, were injured after a FDNY ladder truck collided with an FDNY ambulance early Thursday morning, police said.
The fire truck was traveling to a nearby fire when it crashed into the driver’s side of the ambulance, which was transporting the male patient and a female companion at 1:45 .m. at the intersection of Myrtle and Throop avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
A NYPD investigation determined that the fire truck was heading west on Myrtle Ave., when it struck the ambulance, which was traveling north on Throop Ave, police said.

The man, who was being taken to Woodhull Medical Center after suffering a heart attack, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police officials did not release the name of the victim. The woman, 35, was taken to Woodhull hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Two EMS workers who were in the ambulance were taken to Belleview Hospital with injuries while six firefighters injured in the crash were also taken to area hospital, officials said. The collision with the fire truck caused the ambulance to spin and strike a Honda CRV, which was stopped at the traffic light, police said. Two passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries, police said.
