Killer Who Lured Victim To Bed-Stuy Stash House Sentenced: DA

The man who shot Seneca McCullough in a Gates Avenue Mafia gang stash house on Quincy Street in 2014 has been sentenced, prosecutors said.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — The gunman who lured a man into a Bed-Stuy stash house basement then shot him in the spine will serve at least 23 years in prison, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Joseph Hutcherson, 23, was convicted in December of murdering Seneca McCullough, 35, in the Gates Avenue Mafia gang's stash house at 456 Quincy St. on Aug. 20, 2014, prosecutors said.

“This defendant senselessly took the life of another man and now he has been held accountable,” said District Attorney Eric Gonzalez in a statement. “This type of cold-hearted violence will not be tolerated on the streets of Brooklyn.”

Hutcherson, of East New York, told McCullough to meet him at the abandoned Quincy Street brownstone so they could talk about a fight the two men had the day before, said prosecutors.

Hutcherson led McCullough into the basement, where he beat him and shot him in the lower spine — which shattered — and the back of the head around 12:45 a.m., prosecutors said.

The gunman later tried to hide out in a Coney Island apartment, but was arrested after he called a man, whose phone was being tapped by police, and discussed the shooting, said prosecutors.

A witness also testified during the subsequent trial that Hutcherson had confessed the shooting to his mother, prosecutors said.

A jury found Hutcherson guilty of murder and criminal possession of a weapon in Brooklyn Criminal Court in December, said prosecutors.

Hutcherson’s attorney was not immediately available to comment.
