Passenger Punches Cab Driver In Fare Fight, Police Say

Khaleil Cherry punched his 56-year-old cab driver in the face near Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Gates Avenue Monday night, police said.

BROOKLYN — A cab driver was punched in the face Monday night by a passenger angry about his fare, police said.

Khaleil Cherry, 22, argued with the driver near Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Gates Avenue around 7:35 p.m. Monday night, said police.

The fight turned violent when Cherry took a swing at the 56-year-old driver, who suffered from bruises and a cut on his face, police said.

Police arrested Cherry — who has 14 prior arrests — and charged him with assault and harassment Monday night, an NYPD spokesman said.

Cherry had not been arraigned on those charges as of Thursday morning, police said.
