BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A Black Lives Matter mural on Fulton Street that has become a hub for community activities played yet another role on Saturday — a wedding venue.

Brooklyn couple Makeita Wilson, now Makeita Wilson-Thompson, and Shancton Thompson tied the knot at the Black Lives Matter mural on Fulton Street over the weekend in a declaration to the world that "Black Love Matters."

The wedding is the latest event held at the mural, which was painted on June 15, and has been a hub for celebration through activities organized by The Bed-Stuy Mural Collective.

Wilson-Thompson told Patch last week that the couple decided to get married at the mural after a visit there with her daughter earlier this summer. The couple, who have been engaged since last year, had originally planned to get married in July but had to push the wedding due to the coronavirus crisis.

"Through all the tragedies that's going on in the the world, [I thought], let's put some happiness and love back into the universe," Wilson-Thompson told Patch.
