Sonja Fries, Jeweler, to Exhibit at the American Fine Craft Show
7 Brooklyn artisans to exhibit their work @ the Brooklyn Museum Nov. 18-19 in the landmark Beaux-Arts Court along with 83 other masters

Jeweler Sonja Fries, whose studio is in Bedford Stuyvesant, joins two other jewelers, three furniture makers and a ceramist all with studios in Brooklyn. They are among 90 exhibitors at the fifth American Fine Craft Show Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Museum, November 18-19.
About her rings, cuffs, bracelets and necklaces Fries said: “Jewelry is architecture for the human body, on a small scale. Mine harkens back to my upbringing in rural Germany, combining elements of angular German geometry and European minimalism with soft, feminine features.” The Brooklyn-based jewelry designer added: “My work is produced by hand, using traditional jewelry making methods like sawing, forging and soldering, using mostly classic materials: metals and stones/pearls. Much like an architect, I set out with a unique vision, carefully select my materials, design a piece and then start constructing, layer by layer.” The metals and diamonds she uses are recycled.
Visitors to the show can take in the magnificent exhibitions at the Museum. Concurrent ones include “Rodin at the Brooklyn Museum: The Body in Bronze,” that opens November 17; “Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt;” “Proof: Francisco Goya, Sergei Eisenstein, Robert Longo,” and “Arts of Korea.”
