Stuyvesant Heights Halloween Crawl Goes Virtual For 2020
The annual event will go online for its party and fundraiser, though a self-guided pumpkin hunt and community tribute will be in person.
STUYVESANT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A longstanding Stuyvesant Heights Halloween celebration will look a bit different this year.
The Stuyvesant Heights Parents Association has announced details for its annual Halloween crawl, which has been held for nearly two decades and usually includes a variety of in-person celebrations.
This year, most of the party and fundraising will head online, like several Halloween events around the city.

But families can still head outside to celebrate in a few ways, including a photo opportunity and a self-guided pumpkin hunt. All proceeds from the weekend of events benefit Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center & Noel Pointer Music Foundation.
Here are the details:

Community Art Project & Pumpkin Hunt:
Families were asked to make a decorated real, or paper, pumpkin and put it in their windows before Friday to participate. Those that want to "hunt for the pumpkins" can now head out with their mask and costume to find the new additions in their neighborhood.
Virtual Party & Prizes:
An online party will be held on Halloween from 4 to 5:30 p.m., complete with a DJ, prizes for the Best Pumpkin Cutout, Best Pumpkin Carving, Best Costumes and Best Stoop Decorations. Those who want to participate will need to go to the Stuyvesant Heights Parents Association FB Page to make a donation of $10 — or more if you'd like — to get a link to the party. They can also get access to our Pumpkin Carving tutorial.
Community Tribute & Photos:
On Friday and Saturday, neighbors are invited to take a picture at the SHPA-decorated stoop of Lloyd Porter, who was lost to COVID.
"Each year he gave tirelessly to the community, including #BedStuyBoo," the organization wrote.
Those who take photos are asked to share them with the hashtag #BedStuyBoo.
