2 New York Police Officers Shot in Brooklyn
The two NYPD officers were shot at while engaging in gunfire with an armed suspect, who was struck by police several times.
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN, NY - Two NYPD officers were shot in Bed-Stuy early Saturday morning while trying to arrest an armed suspect, police said.
Two uniformed housing police officers approached a suspect after they heard a shot fired near the intersection of Quincy Street and Malcolm X Boulevard, police said in a release. The suspect allegedly pointed a revolver at them and fled in a vehicle. The two officers followed the suspect and radioed for assistance.

Officers engaged in gunfire with the armed suspect after he crashed into a marked patrol car while traveling the wrong-way at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard. Officers fired at the suspect several times, striking him.
A .357 revolver was recovered from the front seat of the car with five spent shell casings.

The two officers were struck by gunfire during the engagement, police said. One of the officers was struck in his protective vest in the chest. The bullet did not penetrate the vest and the officer suffered blunt-force trauma. The second officer was struck in the right hip.
Both officers are in stable condition and are being treated at Kings County Hospital. Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote on Twitter that he met with the officers, both of whom are alert and with their families.
The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Jamal Funes who police say lived in New Jersey. The NYPD did not provide an update on the suspect’s condition.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
