Watch: Brooklyn Paintball Shooter Targets Orthodox Jews

Possible hate crime.

Police say someone has been shooting paintballs at members the Orthodox Jewish community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The spree began in March and started back up a little over a week ago, according to the Jewish news site JP. Around 1:45 a.m. last Monday at the Bondo’s 24 supermarket on Lee Avenue and Rodney Street, someone in a dark car shot a paintball in the direction of two Orthodox men sitting outside the shop.

It missed the men but put a dent in the Rondo’s awning, according to video evidence from CBS New York. (See below.)

Just a few minutes later, seven blocks away at Lee and Rutledge, another Orthodox man was reportedly struck by a neon paintball.

JP quotes a police official from the 90th precinct as saying: ”We have the same kind of assault, in the same neighborhood, on the same race of people, and we have some evidence that makes us believe there is someone targeting Jews.”

The paintball drive-bys continued this week. CBS reports that yesterday, a man and his grandchildren were targeted with green paint while returning from their local synagogue.

“It’s unfortunate that in 2015, this is still happening,” Brooklyn community leader Rabbi Moshe Indig says in the CBS video report.

Police are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the paintball shooter. If you have a tip, call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477) or area detectives at 718-963-5368.
