Air Quality Alert Issued for Westchester, Rockland Sunday

A poor Air Quality alert was issued Sunday by AirNow.gov and the National Weather Service for Westchester and Rockland counties.

The category Orange warning calls the air quality ”Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” due to the ozone levels, according to AirNow. The Air Quality Index number for today is 105.

“Although general public is not likely to be affected at this AQI range, people with lung disease, older adults and children are at a greater risk from exposure to ozone, whereas persons with heart and lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the air,” states AirNow.

High temperatures are expected to reach 90 today throughout the region, with lots of sun and little wind, according to the NWS.
