Rick Ferman Named Interim Executive Director of Tennis

Grand Slam Tennis Club at Banksville has named Rick Ferman as the club’s Interim Executive Director of Tennis.

“It is with great expectation that we have named tennis industry veteran Rick Ferman as our Interim Executive Director of Tennis,” said Tony Zangrillo, Grand Slam Vice President and General Manager.  “Rick has been successful in heading up our Con petire Tennis School, and we feel his
experience and expertise will benefit our overall tennis operation.”

Rick Ferman has worn many hats during his long and distinguished career in tennis:

As a Tennis Professional, Ferman has developed over 150 collegiate tennis athletes, three of whom have attained All-American status.  Todd Martin, his most accomplished student, reached #4 in the world, was a Davis Cup standout, and reached two Grand Slam finals. Rick is also an inductee of the Midwest Professional Tennis Hall of Fame.

As a past club owner, his clubs were named sectional “Club
of the Year” twice and the 1991 USTA National Organization of the Year.
 In addition, Rick co-chaired two Tennis Forums for IHRSA.

As a competitive tennis player, Rick has won age group section
singles championships, National Public Parks events, and partnering with his
son R.D., garnered the USTA National #1 ranking for 2010 in the Senior Father –
Son Division.

As a tennis volunteer, he served as USTA Player Development
Committee Chair, National Junior Ranking Coordinator, and Section President
Committee and Delegate Council Chair.  Rick also served as President of
several tennis not-for-profit entities including the Greater Lansing Tennis
Patrons, Midwest Tennis and Education Foundation, and he co-founded the Todd
Martin Development Fund.  He also served as Vice President of the United
States Tennis Association National Board of Directors.

As a tennis executive, Rick was the Executive Director and
Chief Operating Officer of the United States Tennis Association.  During
his watch USTA’s revenue doubled to $200 million, Arthur Ashe Stadium was
completed and opened in 1997, major business units focused on Community Tennis
and Professional Tennis were created, the first USTA Strategic Plan was
developed as was the USTA High Performance Coaching Program. He also served as
a member of the Executive Committee of the Tennis Industry Association.

Over the last four years, Rick has created and directed the
Con petire Tennis School at Grand Slam; an integrated, multi-disciplinary
tennis athlete development program with former students competing at such
colleges and universities as Bucknell, Bowdoin, Cornell, Trinity, and Columbia.
