Bedford and Katonah Swimmers Finish Strong at County Championships

Brian Glat was awarded second place in the boys 10 and under individual high point category.

The last day of the Westchester County Swimming Championships saw some more great performances from Katonah and Bedford area swimmers, highlighted by the second place finish of Anita Louise Ehrman's Brian Glat in the Boys 10 & Under 50 Yard Butterfly.

Glat posted a time of 31.28 seconds in the final of the event, just .28 seconds behind first place finisher Ryan Lee from the Wykagyl Country Club. Finishing the four day meet with 26 points, Glat was awarded the second place award in the Boys 10 & Under Individual High Point category Thursday afternoon, given to the top two competitors in each age group.

"Brian's a hard working kid," said ALE Head Coach Laura Tiedge. "I know he had set out a goal of winning the high-point trophy this year, but there are lessons to be learned when you set goals and don't quite make them. He's always very interested in getting feedback on his stroke and ways in which he can improve. He's a great kid and always wants to get better."

Joining Glat in the finals of the Boys 10 & Under 50 Yard Butterfly were his ALE teammates Evan Barker and Christopher Draper, who placed fifth and eighth respectively. Only five boys competed for Anita Louise Ehrman this week, making every member of the team and every race they took part in that much more important.

"It wasn't a lot of pressure because we all just tried our hardest," said Evan Barker, 10-years-old, who posted a time of 33.24 in Thursday's final of the Boys 10 & Under 50 Yard Butterfly. "We made a plan on what to do and we all sprinted out."

Despite fielding such a small team, ALE placed an impressive sixth in the final boys team scores and 13th in the combined team scores, finishing with a four day total of 78 points.

"Just the fact that they were so dominant at this meet is great," said Tiedge. "A coach doesn't get that kind of opportunity very often, to have five boys be extremely strong representing their team."

In other events, ALE's Jasmine Barker, 8-years-old, narrowly missed making the final of the Girls 10 & Under 50 Yard Butterfly, posting a preliminary round time of 34.85, just .52  out of eighth place. Lewisboro's Lucy Moss also just missed out on qualifying for a final Thursday, finishing 10th in a time of 1:22.06, .58 out of the top-eight. Competing in the Girls 17 & Under 100 Yard Backstroke, Katonah Swim Team's Anne Baudinet finished 21st in a time of 1:11.42.

With 13 points, Lewisboro placed 23rd in the girls team scores.
