Bedford Area Patch Voters Guide To School District Elections

BEDFORD, NY — New York residents are asked to vote on their local school district’s budget and board of education May 21. Here are fast facts about the elections in the Bedford and Katonah-Lewisboro school districts.

Bedford Central School District

Voting information

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the elementary school serving your attendance area.

Board of Education

Five candidates are vying for three seats. They are Jessica Cambareri, Michelle Brooks, Beth Staropoli, Joseph Malichio and John Boucher.

School budget

• Proposed for 2019-20: $138.5 million
• Increase over current spending: 2.42 percent
• Tax levy increase: 3.81 percent

Katonah-Lewisboro School District

Voting information

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Increase Miller, Katonah and Meadow Pond elementary schools.

Board of Education

Two candidates are vying for three seats. Julia Hadlock and Elizabeth Gereghty will be on the ballot. Go here for information on how the balloting will be counted, including write-ins.

School budget

• Proposed for 2019-20: $110.2 million
• Increase over current spending: 1.36 percent
• Tax levy increase: 1.61 percent

There will also be a proposition to fund bus and maintenance vehicle replacements. The district is asking for four 66-passenger buses, a wheelchair accessible van, a transportation garage service truck and an operations and maintenance "rack" truck — for a total cost not to exceed $648,485. The money will be taken from current funds available in the 2918-19 general fund and transferred to the capital fund.
