Playing now is a musical inspired by the popular book and movie by one of the most prolific and well-known children’s writers. Bedford Community Theatre presents “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” following its successful productions of “Oliver!” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
Featuring Blake Rowe as Willy Wonka, Fox Lane Middle School student Jake Sperling as Charlie Bucket, Mitch Horn as Grandpa Joe and a cadre of Oompa Loompas, nasty children and clueless parents you’ve come to know the musical is at once familiar, but with its own unique spin.

Willy Wonka is based on Roald Dahl’s best-selling classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, first published in 1964. It was made famous by beloved Gene Wilder in the 1971 musical film, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” The Bedford Community Theatre production is presented in arrangement with MTI.
Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka has beautiful songs by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, “Think Positive” and “Cheer Up Charlie,” the unforgettable “Oompa Loompa” theme, cheerful “Candy Man,” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket” and the delightfully nasty “I Want it Now.” Director Sabrina Johnston. Attendees have been raving about the performance. Kate Branch said, “I was pleasantly surprised by how professional it was have been recommending it to friends!” One little boy loved the show so much, his mother asked if she could get the autograph of “Willy Wonka” for her son to keep.
Bedford Community Theatre is in its 13th year, operated by community volunteers under the auspices of the Town of Bedford Department of Recreation & Parks. Don’t underestimate the value of having the arts in your own backyard!
There will be eight performances over two weekends at the Bedford Hills Community House, 74 Main Street, Bedford Hills, NY.
