Harvey Girls Lacrosse Loses to Masters School
Master’s of Ct @ Harvey, May 7, 2012
The Harvey School’s girls varsity lacrosse team hoped to change its fortunes Monday against the Master's School of Ct, and while the rematch proved to be a more competitive game, Harvey came up on the short side of a 13-9 score.
The Lady Cavaliers, who have struggled against the Master's School the past two seasons, including losing 18-2 earlier in the season, were down 3-0 early in the first half. Harvey’s defense got tough and allowed the offense to get in gear. Sophomore Julia Peraglia launched the counteroffensive before Master's retaliated, but Harvey got closer when sophomore Audrey Rowe scored one and senior Nikki Pugliese scored two, one assisted by Peraglia.
Harvey's defense--led by seniors Rachel Miles, Kelin Jimenez, and sophomore Sammy Aloi--ably supported senior goalie Hannah Slivka, who recorded a total of eight saves in the game. At the the half, Master's led 6-4.
In the second half, Harvey doubled its efforts with a goal and two assists from junior captain Leila Zuaiter, and another goal for Peraglia off an assist by Natasha Stein. Rowe completed a hat trick, Pugliese had an assist, and Abby Hassett also scored, but Harvey could not overcome the deficit in the end. Coach Jeff Seymour said, “Our never-say-die attitude kept the game interesting until the final buzzer.”
With the loss, Harvey fell to 4-6.
Harvey Defeats Forman in Girls Lacrosse
Harvey GV LAX @ Forman, May 2
Harvey’s girls varsity lacrosse team played a back and forth first half against Forman on Wednesday, May 2, but the Lady Cavaliers dominated the second half to get a big win on the road.
Harvey got off to a slow start as Forman’s Lady Lions scored two goals early. Harvey’s offense fired off a number of shots. Some missed wide and others were stopped by the Forman goalie. Harvey senior captain Nikki Pugliese and sophomore Abby Hassett evened the score but only briefly as Forman grabbed the lead with the half winding down. Before time ran out in the half, a fired-up Audrey Rowe led the Cavaliers who fought for and won every ball. Rowe scored with seconds remaining, tying the game 3-3.
Harvey exploded out of the half, led by Rowe who scored a hat trick with assists from eighth grader Kiana Anderson, senior Izzy Gale, and junior Julia Peraglia. Hassett and Pugliese each scored again in the second half, and junior captain Leila Zuaiter put the final nail in the coffin, sealing a 9-5 Harvey victory.
