Katonah Swim & Dive Practices and Tryouts Underway

KSDT pre-season practices are underway at the Katonah Pool! Tryouts continue today and tomorrow from 4-4:30pm.

The Katonah Swim & Dive Team hit the water yesterday as they opened the 2011 NWSC summer season with their first day of practice. Swimmers and divers of all age groups turned out in their new blue and white team t-shirts for the start of pre-season practice at the Katonah Pool.

The practice began with the 8 & unders, which included readiness evaluations for youngest swimmers who wish to participate as Bluebirds, a fun program used to acclimate young athletes into the world of competitive swimming. After practice, the pool deck was filled with smiling faces soaking up the warm sun and drinking up their juices.

For Javier Alicea-Kahn, 6, and Calvin Strothenke, 7, it was their first practice ever. Not only did they get stroke instruction at poolside, they were in the lanes swimming with the team! They both stated up front that the hardest part was getting the breathing right. The best part? “I got to go swimming and it was very fun!” said Alicea-Kahn.

The older members of the team took to the water next, excited to see their summer friends. At Katonah, there is a very high rate of return members. They come back season after season to enjoy a summer of friendship, laughter, fun, and team spirit. This year is no exception. Taking over 25 registrations at Saturday’s Meet & Greet, Parent Committee member Lisa Kramer though that put the team at or above 100, same as last year.

Oh and lets not forget about those upcoming Donut Fridays!

Parents, it’s not too late to register! Is your child interested but unsure? The Coaches invite you to come to the pool and talk to them before or after practices. Your child can swim a lap with the team during tryouts today (Tuesday) and Wednesday from 4:00-4:30pm. Parent committee members are there as well.
