Candidate Forums for 37th Senate District and Bedford Town Board

The League of Women Voters of Bedford, Lewisboro, North Salem will present a Candidates Forum on Monday, October 6 at 7 PM at the Fox Lane Middle School Little Theater, Rte. 172, Bedford, according to Harry MacLaughlin, president, a Katonah resident.

Those invited as candidates for New York State Senate, 37 Senate District, are: Joseph Dillon, Republican, Conservative, Independence and George Latimer, Democrat, Working Family. The 37th SD covers the Town of Bedford and reaches down into the Long Island Sound Shore area of Westchester, including Rye and Larchmont. The candidate for New York State Assembly David Buchwald, 93 Assembly District, is unopposed. The 93rd AD covers North Salem, Lewisboro, Pound Ridge, North Castle, Mt. Kisco and New Castle.

Bedford Town Board candidates are: Don Scott, Republican, Conservative and Bruce Y. Yablon, Democrat, Working Family, Independence.

Each candidate will have a three minute opening statement (timed) followed by questions from the audience and from the League and two minute (timed) responses. After approximately 20 minutes of questions and answers, there will be a two minute wrap up from the candidates. Order of opening will be determined by a coin toss, the closing statement will be in reverse order.

The audio visual department of Fox Lane will videotape the Candidates Forum and the program will be broadcast frequently during the month of October on the local government access channel and Nynex local channel for wider audience exposure.

Moderator for the evening will be Sheila Bernson, president of the LWV of New Castle, Chappaqua; timekeepers will be Richard Auslander of Waccabuc and Del Bashkow of Katonah. The Bedford Candidates Forum was organized by Susan Auslander of Waccabuc and VP of the LWV of BLNS.

Established in 1924, the year women gained the right to vote, the League of Women grew out of the suffrage movement. The core mission of the LWV is to encourage an informed electorate and educated voters.
