Civil Rights Group Sues Bedford Over Affordable Housing

The suit claims the zoning code gives preference to white applicants over black applicants.

BEDFORD, NY — A civil rights group has sued the Town of Bedford for discriminating against African Americans in the doling out of affordable housing. Fair Housing Justice Center has brought similar suits again Yorktown, Bronxville and Eastchester.

The group alleges that Bedford favors white applicants by giving preference to those who already work or live in the town, which more than likely would be white people, the Journal News said. Town Attorney Joel Sachs disputed the claims in the lawsuit.
