Harvey Softball Loses to Greens Farms
We thank the Harvey athletic department for the below submissions:
Harvey’s softball team lost 28-8 at home Saturday April 28 against Greens Farms Academy from Westport, Connecticut. Harvey played strong throughout the early innings, maintaining good defensive plays and consistent pitching for the first three innings. The Cavaliers entered the top of the 4th inning holding the GFA Dragons to a 4-1 lead, but the visitors scored 12 runs, capitalizing on a lapse of defensive concentration and stroking several key hits.
Despite a promising rally in the bottom of the 5th, when the Harvey bats produced six runs, the deficit proved too much to overcome. GFA scored two more in the 5th and added 10 more in the 6th to seal the victory. Offensively, Harvey catcher Kim Bernstein had two of her team’s seven hits and stole five bases while shortstop Anderson Greenwood had two hits and four steals, including an impressive steal of home.
With this loss Harvey’s record is now 2-6.

Harvey Rugby Loses to Fordham Prep
Fordham Prep @ Harvey – April 25, 2012
Harvey’s rugby team put up a good fight Wednesday, but it was the visiting team from Fordham Prep that came out victorious, 32-19. The match was intense from the opening whistle and the first half saw both squads capitalize on a number of scoring chances. On the opening kickoff, Harvey’s Sam Seham tackled the Fordham player and it led to an infraction against Prep. Billy Stapleton converted from 18 meters to give Harvey a three-point lead. Seven minutes later, Prep responded with some nice open field running and dotted down for an unconverted score.
In the 11th minute, Stapleton converted again to give Harvey a one point lead., but Prep responded again for a try to recapture the lead in the 14th minute. Fordham looked to pull away with a nice break through Harvey’s backline to make the score Prep 15 Harvey 6.
Following another Stapleton penalty, Harvey had Prep pinned deep. Off a Prep lineout, Harvey’s Matt Castleton broke through the line and blocked the clearance kick. Seham found glory in the try zone, and after Stapleton’s conversion, Harvey led by one point. After some more heavy hitting, Prep was able to break through twice more, giving them a halftime lead of 27 to 16.
The second half saw plenty of quality action. A Stapleton penalty narrowed the deficit to 8 points with 29 minutes left. For the next 21 minutes, the match remained deadlocked. JD Schneider and Sam Seham just missed scoring opportunities. The Cavaliers battled hard but could not find points. A late Prep try sealed the match with the final score.
