Golden’s Bridge FD 'Community Day' Marked With Fun, Remembrance
The annual event was attended by a few hundred residents throughout the day.
GOLDENS BRIDGE NY — A live burn with firefighters battling real flames in a makeshift house and daring rope bailout maneuvers from a second-story window were among a series of thrilling, action-packed demonstrations at the Golden’s Bridge Fire Department third annual Community Day at the Firehouse. The event, which had a country fair-like atmosphere and was attended by a few hundred residents throughout the day, took place last Saturday.
Other activities included painting pumpkins, operating a real tanker water hose, navigating a smoky room and riding fire trucks. There was also plenty of food, including hamburgers and hot dogs, Halloween treats and other refreshments.
There were also raffle prizes and promotional giveaways.

“As in the past two events, when all was said and done, a few hundred residents from the Goldens Bridge and surrounding communities — families, children of all ages, senior citizens — attended what has become a much-anticipated fall event. It really brings together the entire community and the fire department family,” said Fire Chief James McManus.
He said it was the department's way of thanking residents for their support.

"And since it’s national fire prevention month, we hope that the demonstrations and information, although entertaining, also helped to focus people on things like having an escape plan and what to do — and what not to do — in the event of a house fire,” McManus said.
At this year’s event, there was a special dedication ceremony of the American Legion World Wars monument, a 4-ton granite stone affixed with a pair of bronze plaques inscribed with the names of 76 Goldens Bridge residents who served in WWI and WWII. The monument was recently relocated from its previous home, the Community House in Old Goldens Bridge, to its new home at the Golden’s Bridge Firehouse.
Other emergency services agencies that participated at the Community Day event included the Lewisboro Police Department, Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Westchester County Police and State Police. The K-9 Units of both the State Police and Lewisboro police demonstrated their skills.
