Harvey Drops Season Opener in Baseball

We thank the Harvey Communications Department for the below submissions:

In Harvey’s first varsity game of the season, the Cavaliers dropped a 6-1 decision to Christian Heritage.

James Tabul pitched a complete game, four-hitter for Christian Heritage. He had Harvey off-balance for most of the game, striking out 12 while surrendering only one walk. Harvey junior Jesse Zubren started and took the loss, pitching four innings and giving up four runs, two earned. He allowed only three hits and struck out four.

Senior Will Schubert, who pitched the final three innings, allowed two earned runs on three hits and struck out two.

On offense for Harvey, senior Russell Pober had a hit and scored the lone run. Senior Mikhyle Stein had two hits for the Cavaliers while senior Michael Morra picked up three stolen bases on the day.

Harvey Rugby Loses to Keio

Harvey’s rugby team travelled to Keio Academy Wednesday hoping to capture their first win and looking to erase the memory of last week’s two point loss to New Rochelle, but Keio dashed the hopes of the Cavaliers with a 45-3 blowout victory.

Keio played a fast, disciplined brand of rugby.  Harvey’s coach, Phil Lazzaro said his team was “sluggish” from start to finish. “The way our forward pack played today allowed for some extra Keio excitement, unfortunately,” Coach Lazzaro said.

Keio struck early and often, amassing a twenty point lead by the 14th minute of play.  In the 16th minute, Harvey countered with a 23 meter penalty conversion by Billy Stapleton, but that would be the last time the Cavaliers would tally any points.

Coach Lazzaro said there was no part of Harvey’s game that clicked, citing “unbelievably poorly executed lineouts, poor attack runs by our forward pack and, at times, poor defense.”
