Harvey School's Hockey Team Victorious in Season Opener

The Cavaliers traveled to Bayonne, NJ, to face off against Xavier Catholic.

The following game recap is from The Harvey School:

Harvey’s varsity hockey team began the 2014-2015 season Monday, Nov. 17, with an 8-2 win over Xavier Catholic in Bayonne, New Jersey.

The Cavaliers came out of the shoot firing 18 first period shots, but only one got by Xavier’s goalie, and the game was tied at one after the first stanza.

In the second period, Xavier could not keep the Cavaliers at bay as Harvey took advantage of penalties and scored two power play goals by Tyler Levy of Chappaqua and Thomas Gattuso of Mount Kisco. Levy would add a second goal before the end of the period and freshmen Alex McLean (of Pelham) would score his first varsity goal to give the Cavaliers a commanding 5-1 lead entering the third period.

Sophomore Alex Appel of Bedford would hammer home a blast from the point to start the final period, and Keith Lambert of Cortlandt Manor would tack on two more.

Lambert finished the game with three goals and three assists. Waccabuc’s Theo Rattner collected four assists and senior Mark Siegel (of Mahopac) stopped 15 shots en route to his first victory of the season. Harvey outshot Xavier 42-17 for the game.

Harvey does not play again until Friday, Nov. 28 when the Cavaliers face Mahopac High School at 9 a.m. in the first round of the White Plains Tigers Invitational Thanksgiving Tournament at Ebersol Ice Rink in White Plains.
