NORTH SALEM, NY — An event set to be the closest thing to a royal wedding to take place on this side of the Atlantic is all set for this weekend.

The eldest daughter of billionaires Bill and Melinda Gates owns a 124-acre horse farm in North Salem that will host what might be the social event of the season. Jennifer Gates, who is an avid equestrian, will reportedly marry fellow equestrian Nayel Nassar at the Westchester County property.

Workers were busy this week building temporary steel-and-glass pavilions to keep wedding guests out the elements during the festivities in honor of the 25-year-old heiress and her 30-year-old groom, according to a report from the Daily Mail's Kayla Brantley. Citing sources close to the bride, the news outlet estimates that this weekend's "it event" wedding will cost upwards of $2 million.

Not everyone is happy for the quiet Hudson Valley community to become the focus of so much attention.

"It's totally over-the-top. Just incredible extravagance and unpleasant for the neighbors and the wildlife that made their home on the farm," one neighbor complained to the Mail. "Trucks are constantly coming and going into a field on the farm where deer used to graze. There's a noisy forklift and dozens of workers are driving around on ATVs."

Gates, who is a medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, announced her engagement to Nayel in January of last year.
