Katonah Shops to Participate in 'Fun Fridays'

Organizers hope to foster community and provide a fun atmosphere where it's easy to support local businesses.

More than a half dozen Katonah Avenue shops are slated to participate later this month in "Fun Fridays," an initiative that means a slew of businesses will stay open a bit later than usual.

The program will run Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m., starting May 17 and ending June 14—rain or shine. The goal is to "foster a sense of community, support local business, stay open a little later and have a good time with friends and neighbors," according to a poster advertising the series.

Entertainment will include face-painting and music. Folks who spend $15 or more at any of the participating shops (G. Willikers, Jems, Katonah Jewelers, Katonah Restaurant, Little Joe's Books, NoKa & NoKa Joe's, Offerings, Suburban Groove and Sweetooth) may take their receipt and swing by Willy Nicks for a free glass of wine.

"You get off the train and maybe you don't rush home," said G. Willikers owner Meghan Bazaar, adding that proprietors are looking to get a sense of whether extended hours would work well for customers. "Maybe you meet your family down here and we hang out."
