Katonah Bedford Girls Softball:  Rockies Win 5/6 Grade Division

Last Saturday, the Rockies won the 5/6 Grade Division Championship in the Katonah Bedford Girls Softball League, ending the season undefeated. Most of the girls on the Rockies team have played with each other for years, and their love of softball showed this season.

The Rockies were coached by Mike Murphy, Marc Altneu, Chris Palladino and Bob Marino.

“Our goal was to allow the girls to have fun together and give them opportunities to improve their skills and understanding of the game,” Murphy explains. “Ultimately every player contributed greatly to the team. We were also very fortunate as the girls’ parents were nothing but supportive the whole time.”

A volunteer non-profit organization, KBGS has grown.  Started as a local recreational league by Norm Michaels of Katonah in 1984, Lewisboro joined last year.  Now players from the Towns of Armonk, Bedford, Lewisboro and Pound Ridge and the Village of Mount Kisco play in the league.

The Rockies went 13-0 in regular season games. During the season, the team also played two scrimmage games against older KBGS teams in the 7/8/9 Grade Division, and had numerous practice sessions.

After getting through the quarterfinals and semifinals, the Rockies met the Giants in the Championship. The Rockies had already played the Giants twice in the regular season in closely contested games. The Championship continued the friendly rivalry, but the Rockies ultimately won 7-3.

Cubs Undefeated

The Katonah Cubs of the Juniors division of KBGS had another undefeated season under the veteran leadership of Lily "Slugger" Dalrymple, Claire "Laser Show" Gaza, Reagan "the Switchhitter" Georgi, Erin "the Glove" Phillips, Ali "Big Bat" Leff and Julia "the Sound and" Fury.

Their 1st grade counterparts who contributed to their success as well were Zara "Pigtails" Yusaf, Kat "the Chatter" Dalrymple, Sabrina "Chicken Fingers" Amoriello, India "the Barbarian" Roberts and Elizabeth "Sure Hands" Epstein."
