Police received a call at 4:41 p.m. from a driver on Oenoke Ridge Road who spotted the victim in the road. Investigators at 10:20 p.m. were at the scene with tape measures and cameras, recreating the crime scene to scale.

Police believe the driver was headed toward the New York border. Oenoke Ridge Road was closed at the intersection of Barnegat Road and West Road.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed or heard the hit-and-run to notify authorities at 203-594-3500.

Wednesday's incident is the second hit-and-run to occur on Oenoke Ridge Road in less than three months. On May 21, 2010, Margaret McDonald of South Salem struck an 82-year-old bicyclist with her car while traveling northbound on Oenoke Ridge Road.

The victim, Thomas Scheuer of New Canaan, survived with serious injuries. McDonald later turned herself in to New Canaan police on Aug. 3.
