NYAW Announces Scholarship Award to John Jay Student
Bella Bettencourt Receives $3,000 Scholarship to Pursue Her Career in Architecture
Katonah, N.Y. (September 9, 2020) - Through its partnership with the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC-NY), New York American Water recently awarded Bella Bettencourt of John Jay High School a $3,000 scholarship. This marks the ninth consecutive year that New York American Water has offered scholarships to high school students within its service area to pursue higher education in a field that can make a difference in the water industry.
“We congratulate Bella on all of her achievements and commend her for the passion she displays for the preservation of our water sources,” said Lynda DiMenna, President of New York American Water. “We know she is going to have a bright future and wish her nothing but the best in her education and career endeavors.”
Bella graduated from John Jay High School this past June and is one of seven award recipients throughout the New York American Water Service Area this year. She will be attending Cornell

University this fall and will be majoring in Architecture.
While a student at John Jay High School, Bella excelled in the classroom earning high marks and even becoming a member of the National Honor Society. In addition, Bella also earned John Jay High School Honors for Excellence in Architecture and was the Founder and President of the Architecture Club. On top of all of that, she interned at an architecture and planning firm and volunteered in the community.
