NYS Tax Call Center Hours Extended Through 2016 Filing Deadline

The agency will be open extra hours to answer questions about state returns.

Still crunching numbers on your New York State tax return and you have some questions?

You can get help from the state Department of Taxation and Finance because, through Monday, April 18, its Call Center hours have been extended.

Taxes must be filed or an extension must be applied for in New York by April 18. The usual deadline of April 15 is a holiday—Emancipation Day—in our nation’s capital so the Internal Revenue Service is closed.

Call center representatives will be available Friday, April 15, and Monday, April 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The number is 1-518-457-5181.

They will even be available from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16.

Information from the department said by the beginning of April call center reps received and answered 400,000 taxpayer calls.

They were anticipating more than 150,000 calls in the final two weeks.

If taxpayers are computer-comfortable, the state said many questions can be answered by visiting www.tax.ny.gov.

And if you’ve already filed your state refund, it is easy to check the status of your refund by also visiting www.tax.ny.gov.
