Omicron Variant Cancels Most Lewisboro 1st Day Events
The family hike will go ahead and the inauguration ceremonies will be live-streamed, but the indoor events have been put on hold.
LEWISBORO, NY — The 8th Annual Lewisboro First Day Celebration is the latest holiday event to fall victim to the dramatic spike in COVID-19 cases since the emergence of the omicron variant.
"Due to the rise in COVID cases in town, the rain forecasted for Saturday (we won't be able to move event outdoors) and trying to keep everyone as healthy as possible as we enter 2022, it is with a heavy heart that we cancel all of our indoor activities for First Day," organizers announced on Thursday.
The indoor snowball fight, basketball shoot-around and art activities will have to wait for brighter days, but the Lewisboro Land trust family hike and the swearing in ceremony will take place as scheduled — albeit with a few modifications.

The swearing in of newly elected town officials (Supervisor-Elect Tony Goncalves, Town Board Members-Elect Mary Shah and Andrea Rendo, and Town Tax Receiver, Deirdre Casper) will now be a virtual rather than in-person event. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Lewisboro TV Channel on YouTube at 11:30 a.m.
The Annual Lewisboro Land Trust First Day Family Hikes and Boy Scout Troop 1 will offer two hikes at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at Mount Holly Preserve. Hot cocoa will be served by Boy Scout Troop 1. All ages and friendly dogs on leashes are welcome (a carry option is recommended for kids under 5). This hike is rated moderate and will take about 45 minutes. Sturdy shoes and warm layers are recommended.
Advance registration is required here.
The hikes are open to all, but organizers ask those who register to please arrive on time. Those unable to attend are asked to please cancel their registration so spots can be made available to others.
Special COVID-19 protocols: please carry a mask for times when physical distance cannot be maintained.
