Rep. Maloney Declares Victory in the 18th Congressional District Election, Former Rep. Hayworth Has Not Conceded

There's a 2,740-vote margin, according to unofficial results from Putnam, Orange, Dutchess and Westchester counties.

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Sean Maloney is declaring victory over his Republican challenger, former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, for the 18th Congressional District, in what was a close, hard-fought contest.

According to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections, Maloney had 10,906 votes compared to Hayworth’s 10,068.

She was much stronger in Putnam County, getting 14,194 votes while he got just 11,207.

However, his showing in Orange County was 41,743 and Hayworth’s was 37,763. And in Dutchess County, he garnered 20,559 votes to her 19,600.

Maloney’s total: 84,415.

Hayworth’s total: 81,675.

All results for board of elections are unofficial at this time.

On her Facebook page, Hayworth’s supporters were urging a re-count. On his Facebook page, Maloney congratulated his opponent and vowed to continue fighting for “hardworking middle class families.”


But as of Wednesday morning, Hayworth had not yet conceded, according to The Journal News, and on her Facebook page, at least one supporter was urging her to demand a recount.
