Walgreens Construction Restarts

Since asbestos abatement was done at the former D'Agostino supermarket site in Chappaqua around the middle of last year, it did not appear as though there was notable on-site work. Recently, however, activity has resumed at the site, which will become a Walgreens pharmacy.

Recent signs of this renewed activity included dismantling the old D'Agostino signage that was prominently displayed on the upper front of the building. A demolition permit issued last year by the town is now displayed on a front window, and active work inside could be seen.

New Castle Building Inspector Bill Maskiell confirmed the renewed activity, saying that they have been moving ahead within the past two months. Prior to that, he described the site, which is at 411 King St., as being "more or less dormant" for months.

A few weeks ago, Maskiell said, Walgreens set information for him to review in connection with its application for a building permit, which is still pending. Maskiell also said his understanding is that Walgreens wants to make the place "one of their flagship stores."

D'Agostino closed the Chappaqua store in 2011 and Walgreens took over the space. The closure left the hamlet of Chappaqua without a major grocery store, although there is a proposal now to add one to Chappaqua Crossing. That plan calls for building a supermarket of 36,000 to 66,000 square feet, in addition to ancillary retail. The proposal is controversial among residents and merchants, who worry that it could economically hurt the existing local business community.

New Clothing Store Coming to Chappaqua

A clothing place, focusing on upscale women's fashion, is coming to downtown Chappaqua. Called Designer Symphony, it is moving into 27 S. Greeley Ave., the former site of Tiffany, which was a nails and spa place. 

A building permit is now displayed at the storefront, which the inspector's office explained is for minor interior work.

L3 Fitness Opens in Chappaqua

Chappaqua has a new place for exercise. Called L3 Fitness, the place opened in Chappaqua in January, its Facebook post notes. The address for L3 is at 16 S. Bedford Road.

"Waka" Opens in Chappaqua

Waka Asian Bistro is a recent addition to Chappaqua's downtown restaurant scene. Its address is 95 King St., which was the previous address for the Kira Sushi place, according to its old store information.

Asiana Buffet Coming to Mount Kisco

A new restaurant is moving into 15 Main St. in Mount Kisco, which was the site of Blue, an Asian fusion place. It is called Asiana Buffet and there is a coming soon sign displayed in front. A building permit issued by the village is for the installation of two hot buffet bars, along with a salad bar.

Little Garden Arrives in Mount Kisco

Little Garden Childcare Center announced that it has received its state license to operate. 

Located at 27 Radio Circle in Mount Kisco, Little Garden offers child care, on a full-time basis, to kids from 3 months to 5 years old. It also has an after-school program for kids ages 5 to 12.

RECAP: Study Says Chap Crossing Retail Plan Won't Hurt Hamlets

Summit/Greenfield, developer of Chappaqua Crossing, submitted a new supplemental environmental impact statement to the Town of New Castle last week for its retail and supermarket proposal, which would involve using 120,000 square feet of rehabilitated and new space. The statement includes a market study comissioned for the developer, which states the the proposal will not hurt existing businesses in the Chappaqua and Millwood hamlets. RECAP: Two Possible Tenants for Chappaqua Train Station

There are two restaurants proposals for using the Chappaqua train station, which the Town of New Castle owns and is seeking to lease. One proposal is from the owner of Via Vanti! in Mount Kisco, who wants to create a Chappaqua version of her restaurant. The other plan, called Burdock, comes from a group whose partners include the son of the owner of Chappaqua's Whispering Pines and a man with experience working at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills.
