This evening the Harvey ruggers took on Dallas Jesuit High School under the lights at Jesuit.  The boys have worked extremely hard the past week training and working out daily.  Following the match versus Plano this past Saturday the team was looking to improve in three areas of play – scrummage work, lineout play and defensive structure.

The boys came out of the gates well and pressured Jesuit the first five minutes moving the ball into Jesuit territory but they were unable to convert the early possession. In the 8th minute of play Jesuit capitalized on a defensive formation lapse and broke through the Harvey defense for a try.

In the 15th minute following two Harvey infringements Jesuit scored again. Harvey responded well and maintained possession for the next eight minutes. Following some nice forward effort the boys were camped near the Jesuit tryline.

Eventually Buckwald captured the ball and muscled his way into the tryzone. Gattuso converted to narrow the Jesuit lead to three points.  Jesuit and Harvey continued to battle with time running down. Cam Chase nearly broke through the defense but was dragged down after a thirty meter run.

Riverain also came close to points as well.  In stoppage time Jesuit forced a quick turnover near the half line and raced 50 meters to score bring the score to 22 to 7.  Harvey forced a turnover off of the kickoff and drew two successive penalties but their kick for points narrowly missed.

In the second half the boys continued to battle but were unable to point additional points on the board.  Jesuit capitalized on a few turnovers and dotted down for three more scores.

Overall the boys played well and improved on many facets of their play.  Brian Theiss, Nick Gattuso, Cam Chase and Sharif Koonce did an outstanding job all night long.

Due to absences and injuries we were able to dress and play many new members on the starting fifteen. Singleton, Sturm, O’Connor, Leventhal, Mulhern and Matts all played well with the opportunity presented.
