State Grant Funds Planning for Hudson-Spanning Walkway

The proposed SkyWalk will link two historic sites.

A scenic pedestrian trail, spanning the Hudson River, is in the planning stages thanks to a state grant.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday the process to build the Hudson River SkyWalk, which will link two historic sites across the river.

A $124,000 grant, administered by the Department of State through the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, will be used to pay for the planning and design of the SkyWalk and to develop an economic impact study for the project.

Cuomo said the new SkyWalk Trail will allow visitors to experience the natural beauty of the region.

“The majesty of the Hudson River Valley is timeless and this project will build on the region’s natural, cultural and historical significance,” he said.

Bridge Authority Executive Director Joseph Ruggiero said the governor’s support for the project will make it a success for the Catskill-Hudson region.

“The Bridge Authority works hand in hand with Parks and preservation groups at all our bridges,” he said. “The SkyWalk could be one of our highlights.”
