'Tis The Season To Carol And Hike With The Lewisboro Land Trust

Saturday's mile-long hike at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation is suitable for all ages and skills — just maybe leave the figgy pudding at home.

LEWISBORO, NY — The Lewisboro Land Trust is giving us one final chance to meet up in the great outdoors before the arrival of mean old man winter, this time with a bit of holiday cheer.

The special hike, caroling and holiday program is slated for Saturday, from 2-4 p.m. at Pell Hill in Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Organizers say the outdoor event is intended to allow the community to gather safely to celebrate the spirit of the holiday season in nature.

Adventuresome carolers of all ages will meet at the parking lot at the top of Pell Hill and then go on a short hike (about one mile long). The family-friendly nature walk will end at the new picnic shelter where participants can warm up with a bonfire and holiday sing-along.

There will be plenty of space for families to sing at safe distances from one another, according to the group.

Songs will be led by a classically-trained vocalist, accompanied by a flutist, and song sheets will be provided. There will be two fires to gather around for warmth and with hot cocoa and treats for all.

While the program is recommended for all ages, naturalists "strongly suggest" wearing sturdy shoes good for muddy conditions and dressing in warm layers.

Dogs on leashes are welcome.

Advance registration is required for all participants. The entrance to the park will be free for participants (with proof of registration at the gate). In the event of snow or ice accumulation on the roads, a backup location within the park will be announced. Steady rain or other inclement weather will cancel the festivities.
