Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Gardening; Children

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities somewhere in the Hudson Valley.

Each week Patch will be highlighting a volunteer opportunity — or two — in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — in perhaps a way you didn't consider before.

And if you have some need for volunteers, be sure to let us know by emailing michael.woyton@patch.com.

This week we are putting the spotlight on a couple of opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

First, Ward Acres Community Garden in New Rochelle is looking for people to join their late summer garden crew. Volunteers will participate in tilling the soil, raking, cleaning and hauling, weeding deadheading, woodchipping and composting. All ages and abilities are welcome, organizers said.

Second, Let's Play! A Place for Families is seeking a bilingual volunteer staff member to work at its weekly drop-in parent-child program located in Tarrytown and serving the diverse Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow community of families with children from birth to age 5. The volunteer should be warm and enthusiastic and should either be familiar with Tarrytown Sleepy Hollow Basics or willing to learn. While this is officially a volunteer staff position, there is a stipend.
