What’s Old is New Again: New Opticians, Dentists in Town
Retiring practices make way for new businesses in Katonah.
Two new health-care businesses have popped up in town, after moving into spaces that became available from two retiring practices.
On Monday, Raymond Opticians opened its doors at 198 Katonah Avenue, in the Village East Plaza, in the former offices of Robert Burke.
The third-generation family-owned and operated optical business has several offices across Westchester and Putnam Counties. Owner Raymond Kolkmann said the new Katonah location just seemed like a great strategic fit for his business.

“There was another optician here for 25 years and when he retired, this Katonah location was perfect—we have 18 other locations but none in Katonah, Bedford Hills, or Cross River,” said Kolkmann.
Kolkmann said if Raymond Opticians wasn’t already a well-established brand, he probably wouldn’t be opening a new business in this economy.

“We are a well known and trusted quantity," he said of the 50-year old business. "We have a very loyal following, including the teachers unions and doctors offices who recommend us,” he said.
Kolkmann told us to keep an eye out for grand opening festivities within the next two weeks, which may include special deals and a wine and cheese event.
recently opened at 128 Katonah Avenue, under the new ownership of Drs. Melissa Rodgers and Daria Grillo. Grillo said that she and her partner worked together for years at the Danbury Hospital before they decided to open their own dental practice. An opportunity presented itself when Katonah Dental’s former business owner, Dr. John Gnerre, retired his practice.
“We love Katonah, and we intend to build this one-man practice," said Grillo, noting that they currently divide their time in the office. "Our long-term plan is to grow so we can both be here full-time."
New customers are invited to come in for a cleaning and checkup and receive $100 dollars off of their first visit.
