A Thriller at Newbridge Road Park

On a Tuesday night at Newbridge Road Park That 70s Band performed a free outdoor concert featuring a tribute to Michael Jackson. There was a great turnout for this event, which also featured Hofstra's Astronomy Outreach Program. 

"It's nice to have a place for families and friends to go to that's inexpensive and fun," said Rachel Fuseo, an employee of the recreation office for the Town of Hempstead.

That 70s Band had the crowd going right from the start. Everyone was on their feet dancing the night away to songs like "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind and Fire's "September."  The second half of their performance was a Michael Jackson tribute that really energized the crowd. They kicked off the tribute with a fan favorite "Gotta Be Startin' Somethin" and continued for the rest of the night with hit after hit of Michael Jackson's.

Along with the music, Hofstra University's Astronomy Outreach Program was in attendance giving concertgoers a glimpse of space. Dr. Donald Lubowich, coordinator of the program at Hofstra, was on site and offering stargazing for adults and children with telescope observations of the moon, Saturn, Jupiter, star clusters and nebulae.

A group of best friends and sisters from Merrick were among the crowd.

"We came here for the music and a girls night out with our daughters, but we did go over to the telescopes and saw Saturn it was pretty cool and interesting," they said.

Some concert-goers said they would have like to have seen food vendors.
