Algieri Holds Off Tough Texan, Remains Unbeaten

Chris Algieri, who trains at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, moves to 15-0-0 Saturday with fourth victory in front of hometown crowd at The Paramount.

Huntington boxer Chris Algieri, who trains at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, improved to 15-0-0 (7KO's), in hard fought performance against Texas fighter Raul Tovar in an eight round junior welterweight bout at The Paramount Theater Saturday.

"Despite being tested by Tovar throughout the bout, Algieri was able to adapt to changes in tactics from the Mission, Texas, native and utilize his speed and boxing skills to consistently score points throughout the bout," according to a Star Boxing press release.

Algieri told Patch last week Tovar, with a "good chin," was no "stiff."

Holding off a late surge by Tovar 10-6-1 (4KO's) the St. Anthony's graduate maintained his composure and control the action in the headline fight en route to a unanimous decision, scoring 78-74, 77-75 and 77-75 from the judges.

Keith Trimble, Algieri's trainer at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, said that Algieri "passed with flying colors" during the fight.
