Nassau Teams Featured In National Top 25
USA Lacrosse Magazine released its national top 25 rankings this week, certifying the best of the best across the country in boys’ lacrosse. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there wasn’t a top 25 in lacrosse without a few Nassau County entrants.

For starters, Garden City came in at #1 in the country, boasting an 11-1 record with its lone loss coming to Cold Spring Harbor — who came in at #12 themselves. That 11-1 mark also features statement wins over powers like Ward Melville, Rye and New Jersey representative Shawnee.
Also featuring in the national rankings were #10 Massapequa, the aforementioned Cold Spring Harbor, #14 Manhasset, #20 Northport, #21 Syosset and #24 Wantagh.

For fourteenth-ranked Manhasset, Saturday’s matchup against the top dogs will be a chance to improve on their standing. Not only is Set jockeying for position in those rankings, it’s also hot on the heels of Cold Spring Harbor in League 1A.
Cold Spring Harbor, meanwhile, will take on Huntington in non-league action Saturday.
Massapequa Football Player Earns DPOY Honors
Massapequa linebacker Anthony DiNello received the Gregg Sarra Trophy, the district announced this week, an award given out to the defensive player of the year on Long Island. Recognized by the Suffolk County chapter of the National Football Foundation, DiNello received the award at an April 19 banquet, per district officials.
Special Olympics Come To Massapequa
Hundreds of athletes are set to compete at Massapequa High School Saturday in the Special Olympics New York Long Island Region Spring Games, a day of festivities that will feature athletes from 50 teams and three separate competition sites. A parade of athletes will precede the games, with a national anthem performance by Massapequa Alumnus Jesse Findling. The event is being co-sponsored by Northwell Health, Massapequa School District and the Town of Oyster Bay.
Festivities will begin at Berner Middle School at 9 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 9:30 and games continuing through 3:30 p.m., organizers said.
