"Annie Get Your Gun" Steals the Show in Bellmore

Bellmore Theatre hosts this classic Annie Oakley musical.

Stanley and Gloria Weinstein drove from Plainsboro, NJ yesterday to see the Plaza Theatrical Productions performance of "Annie Get Your Gun" at the Bellmore Theater.

"I saw the movie when I was younger," Stanley said. "And we're here at the behest of the Criers Lodge who bought a block of tickets."

"I grew up on the music," Gloria added.

With music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, which includes the familiar, "There's No Business Like Show Business," "I Got the Sun in the Morning" and "Anything You Can Do," it's easy to see why the musical is such a classic drawing in a big crowd on a Sunday afternoon.

"I saw 'Annie Get Your Gun' with Bernadette Peters," said Farmingdale's Joyce Campanella, one of the more than 20 members of the Red Hat Society in attendance.

Another Red Hat Society member, Carolyn Holzbaur, from Massapequa Park, said that each month a member takes a turn to run an event. After seeing a brochure for the upcoming musical, she arranged for her fellow members to attend.

"Everybody I dealt with at the box office was lovely," she said.

Jordan Smith, who plays Annie Oakley, has appeared in other Plaza productions, including "The Secret Garden" and "Fiddler on the Roof,"  said she enjoys doing this particular production.

"It's a family show that everyone can see," Smith said.

Thea Sieban, playing the colorful Dolly Tate, agreed.

"It's lighthearted and we also perform for school groups," Sieban added.

Jason Schoenberger, who has performed in over 45 productions across Long Island, plays Frank Butler, the man who catches Annie's eye and her heart. "I like that every cast member is a big part of the show," he said.

Apparently the long drive from New Jersey was worth it for the Weinsteins.

"That even kept me quiet," Stanley said, referring to the show. "That's amazing!"

Be sure to catch "Annie Get Your Gun" before the tour ends on July 26 at the Westbury Manor.
