Back to School for North Bellmore Students

Kindergartners through sixth-graders were welcomed back for another school year.

It was back to school in the North Bellmore School District on Tuesday and despite nerves, students, parents and faculty were all smiles.

Bryan, fifth grader at John G. Dinkelmeyer Elementary School, said that "summer was getting old…I was running out of things to do."

Even the littlest grade-schoolers were excited. Lisa Babsin, mother of kindergartner Nicolette, said she was nervous for her daughter but that she "got on the bus with a big smile, excited that it was her first day of 'big-girl school'".

Similarly, fourth-grader Daniel Lanza's mom, Kathy, stated that her son was excited because "he got the teacher he wanted and all his friends were in his class."

The day held different events for each school, as principals walked around the building greeting students. Specifically, Dinkelmeyer Elementary held a coffee gathering this morning, to give parents a chance to meet new friends and sign-up for school-year activities.

Martin Avenue Principal Dr. Mark Wiener welcomed students them to the new year as well as meeting with the older classes to express to them that they are role models to the younger grades.

Fifth grade teacher Mr. Montalbano prepared students for the year at Martin Avenue by "going over rules and procedures" as well as exciting things like "using the SMARTBoard in daily lessons."

"Excitement is in the air," added Mr. Montalbano.

Ms. Hooker at Newbridge Road also shared in the enthusiasm.

"So exciting to see a brand new set of smiling faces. It's a wonderful feeling in the beginning because everything is new and fresh."

"Our first day was wonderful," added Karen Buran, fourth grade teacher. "The children were excited to see their friends and share their stories of summer fun. They worked nicely on our back to school projects. This is going to be a great year."

Third grader, Brianne Sheridan was equally as happy and shared her favorite activity of the day, "We designed and put our name on paper t-shirts that are going to be put on the bulletin board in the hallway."

Parents can see these creations and all that their children are doing in school when Back-to-School Night is held in the upcoming two weeks.
